FA to Consider Terry Red Card

Chelsea have appealed against the red card John Terry was shown on Saturday, the FA has confirmed. "Chelsea have submitted a claim for wrongful dismissal on behalf of John Terry," read an FA statement. "A regulatory commission will consider the claim on September 16."

Terry was sent off for serious foul play after fouling Jo during Saturday's 3-1 victory over Manchester City. The resulting three-match ban means Terry is due to miss his club's meeting with Manchester United on Saturday.

Several Chelsea players were unhappy with the decision and surrounded refereee Mark Halsey, while there was a long delay before Terry left the pitch, gesturing to City fans as he did so.

"The players didn't understand the decision and it is normal for some to say, 'What is this, what is that?' - but with respect for the referee, not affronting the referee, not bad words," said the Chelsea manager Luz Felipe Scolari after the match. "Chelsea players respect what they [the FA] say to us and that the word is respect."
