McLaren to Appeal Against Hamilton Penalty

McLaren have confirmed they will appeal against the penalty imposed on Lewis Hamilton in the Belgian grand prix
McLaren have confirmed they are to appeal against the 25-second drive-through penalty imposed on Lewis Hamilton after Sunday's Belgian grand prix.

The controversial decision led to Hamilton being demoted from first to third, with a potential drivers' championship lead of eight points cut to two over the eventual race winner, Ferrari's Felipe Massa.

The matter will now go before the International Court of Appeal, which will initially determine whether McLaren's protest is legal. If there is a case to answer, it will then assess the verdict of the three-man panel of stewards who handed down the penalty.
