Olympics: Degale Blows Away Sutherland to Secure Shot at Gold
British middleweight James DeGale has secured at least a silver after breezing past Ireland's Darren Sutherland
Great Britain's James DeGale will box for the Olympic gold tomorrow, after breezing past Ireland's Darren Sutherland in the middleweight semi-finals.
DeGale will face either Cuba's Emilio Correa Bayeaux or India's Vijender Kumar in the final, but is guaranteed at least a silver medal after breezing past Sutherland.
Both men began cautiously, before DeGale used his superior agility to open up a two-point lead in the second round. The third round, however, was all one-way traffic, with DeGale landing a series of blows to take the round 5-1, and increase his lead to 8-2.
Despite some heavy blows from Sutherland late in the final round, DeGale stood firm to record a comfortable 10-3 victory.
