Poland and Us Sign Missile Defence Deal

Russia says agreement to locate base on Polish territory makes Poland vulnerable to nuclear attack
The US and Poland have signed a deal to place an American missile defence base in Poland, further straining Russia's ties with the west following the conflict in Georgia.

Condoleezza Rice, the US secretary of state, and Polish foreign minister Radek Sikorski completed the formal signing today, following 18 months of negotiations.

The deal has angered Russia, which has said that Poland is making itself a target vulnerable to attack, possibly a nuclear one.

The signing comes six days after the two countries agreed to a deal that would see 10 US interceptor missiles placed 115 miles from Russia's western frontier.
