Olympics: Danvers Reaches Hurdles Final
Great Britain's Tasha Danvers has qualified for the final of the women's 400m hurdles in impressive fashion. The 31-year-old finished second in her semi-final, finishing in a time of 54.31sec. Sheena Tosta finished in first place, 0.24sec ahead of Danvers.
London-born Danvers reached the final of the 400m hurdles in Sydney in 2000, but finished the race in eighth position. She didn't compete in Athens four years ago after taking time out from the sport to have a baby and finish a degree.
"I'm very pleased with the way things are panning out," a delighted Danvers said. "Phase two is complete and now I'll get ready for the real big show. To say I'm in the final again eight years after having a baby and god knows what in between, I'm delighted."
But it was bad news for Team GB's Greg Rutherford in the long jump final. Rutherford followed up two no-jumps with a leap of 7.84m, which wasn't enough to keep him in contention for the medals.
