Olympics: Tweddle Narrowly Misses Out on Medal

Beth Tweddle finished fourth in the final of the uneven bars, narrowly missing out on another gymnastics medal for Britain
Great Britain gymnast Beth Tweddle finished in fourth place in the final of the uneven bars, narrowly missing out on another gymnastics medal for Britain. The 23-year-old from Cheshire was bidding to follow Louis Smith on to the podium after he won bronze on Sunday, but was punished for two small errors - including one on the landing - and was awarded a score of 16.625.

Tweddle was the penultimate competitor to perform, so knew she needed to beat home favorite Yang Yilin's 16.650 to be in medal contention, but despite her best efforts she fell short and had to settle for fourth place - her best Olympic finish.

Gold went to another Chinese gymnast, He Kexin, while Yang held on for bronze. Nastia Liukin of the US took the silver medal to complete a personal milestone of four medals from these Games, equaling a total her father and coach Valeri set 20 years ago. Nastia, 18, had previously won gold in the all-around event, silver in the team event and bronze in the floor event. She has an opportunity to overtake her father's haul when she competes in the balance beam on Tuesday.
