Real Madrid Close Door on Robinho's Chelsea Move

Real Madrid have stated that Brazilian midfielder Robinho will not be moving to Chelsea
Real Madrid have stated that the Brazilian midfielder Robinho will not be moving to Chelsea. The Stamford Bridge club are believed to have two bids rejected for the 24-year-old, but with nearly two weeks remaining in the transfer window Madrid president Ramón Calderón has stated that Robinho will be staying at the Bernabéu.

Recent reports have suggested that Robinho is keen to join up with Luiz Felipe Scolari's side and Chelsea had a second bid, believed to be in the region of £23m, rejected last week with Madrid reportedly holding out for £35m. Robinho played for Madrid in Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Valencia in the Spanish Super Cup, and Calderon has now unequivocally stated that the Brazilian will play for Real Madrid this season. "He is going to play this season with us I am absolutely sure," Calderón said. "He has looked lively, very happy and full of desire. And the coach [Bernd Schuster] has told me that he is training very well."

Calderón also likened Chelsea's pursuit of Robinho to his own club's failed attempt to sign Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United. Of Ronaldo, who opted to stay at Old Trafford for at least one more season, Calderón said: "He is a player whose club did not want to sell him. He said that he would like to play for us, but his club did not want to sell him. There are a lot of clubs who want our players and we don't want to sell them either. This is football."

Despite it being a relatively quiet summer in the transfer market by Madrid's standards, Calderón ruled out any more additions to their squad. Rafael van der Vaart is the only new face to have been brought in by Madrid, although Ruben de la Red and Javi Garcia have returned from loan deals and Ezequiel Garay was signed from Racing Santander before being immediately lent back to the Cantabrian club.

Calderón was emphatic when asked if his La Liga champions would be making any further signings. "No," he replied. "The feeling is that is this is going to be a good year for Real Madrid. We said that the project was complete and I am sure that this season is going to be one of consolidation. We have a complete and very balanced squad."
