Zac Purchase and Mark Hunter took gold with a superb performance in the men's lightweight double sculls at the Shunyi Rowing Park.
The 22-year-old Purchase and the 30-year-old Hunter, the first British competitors to reach a double sculls final, held off the challenge of Greece, who finished second, with Denmark third.
The medal is Britain's 19th of the Games, and the nation's ninth gold, and moved the country up to fourth place in the medal table.
