Olympics: British Women's Relay Team Pipped to Bronze in 4x100m Medley

The British women just missed out on a medal in the 4x100m medley, while David Davies came fifth in the men's 1500m
The Team GB women missed out on a medal in 4x100m medley relay as the Australian four set yet another world record at the Water Cube to take gold. A British and European record best of 3:57.50 was only enough for fourth as the gold-capped Australians knocked three seconds of their previous mark to win in 3:52.69.

The USA took silver, with China fending off the British challenge for bronze. But it was the Australian team of Emily Seebohm, Leisel Jones, Jessicah Schipper and Libby Trickett who comfortably took the glory.

Earlier, Oussama Mellouli won gold in the men's 1500m freestyle to give Tunisia their first medal of the Beijing Games. Britain's David Davies, a bronze medalist in this event four years ago, came home in fifth.

While the British contingent may have harbored faint medal hopes for Davies, the Welshman was never really in contention despite a solid race, finishing in a time of 14:52.11. He can, however, look forward to Thursday's 10km open water event, having taken silver in the event at this year's world championships.
