Olympics: Dejected Federer Out of Men's Singles After Blake Defeat
Roger Federer has lost 6-4, 7-6 to American James Blake in Beijing, compounding a miserable year for the top seed
Gold medal hopeful Roger Federer is out of the tennis singles after producing an error-strewn performance, losing to the American James Blake in straight sets.
Federer came into the tournament knowing that he would concede his world No1 status to Rafael Nadal next week after four years at the top. And following a string of early exits from tournaments preceding the Games, the Swiss found his slump continuing in Beijing, as he played well below his best in a match that was delayed by rain. World No7 Blake eventually finished Federer off, winning 7-2 in the second set tie-break.
Blake, who has only ever taken one set off Federer in eight previous meetings, now advances to the semi-final.
