Gerrard Out for Liège Fixture

Steven Gerrard has been ruled out of Liverpool's trip to face Standard Liège in Champions League qualification due to injury
Steven Gerrard will miss Liverpool's Champions League qualifier at Standard Liège next week because of a thigh injury he aggravated during the friendly against Valerenga on Tuesday.

The Liverpool captain had a scan yesterday and has been ruled out for a week but expects to be fit for the Premier League opener at Sunderland on Saturday week. Gerrard's absence in Belgium on Wednesday, and the Olympic call-ups for the central midfielders Javier Mascherano and Lucas, will increase Rafael Benítez's desire to sign Gareth Barry this week.
