England Unchanged for Record Sixth Test
Michael Vaughan's side have made history by becoming the first Test team to field the same XI for six consecutive matches
England have made Test history by becoming the first side ever to name an unchanged line-up for six consecutive matches. Captain Michael Vaughan announced the same side at Lord's today prior to tomorrow's start of the opening Test against South Africa. The Hampshire seamer Chris Tremlett once again misses out from the 12-man squad.
"Hopefully this side will put in a similar performance to the one we delivered against New Zealand at Trent Bridge [when England won by an innings and nine runs]," said Vaughan. "I think our performances got better as the New Zealand series went on and we want that to continue against South Africa."
Andrew Flintoff rejoined his England team-mates today as they prepared for the Test - but only as a net bowler. The all-rounder was in London after playing for Lancashire in last night's Twenty20 Cup quarter-final defeat to Middlesex, in which he scored a quickfire 50 and took three wickets, and was asked to join the rest of the squad training at Lord's this morning.
He was due to bowl in the nets to give England a chance to monitor his fitness but has not been added to the squad for the opening match of the four-Test series tomorrow. Flintoff was due to make his Test comeback at the start of this summer against New Zealand following ankle surgery but suffered a side strain.
England: Vaughan (c), Strauss, Cook, Bell, Pietersen, Collingwood, Ambrose (wkt), Broad, Sidebottom, Anderson, Panesar.
