Nasri Claims Gunners Deal is Done
Arsenal have signed French playmaker Samir Nasri from Marseille, according to the player's website
Arsenal have signed the French midfielder Samir Nasri from Marseille, according to the player's personal website.
The 20-year-old winger says he has committed to a four-year deal. He is reported to have undergone a medical in London following France's elimination from Euro 2008. ''We inform you that Samir won't be an Olympic Marseille player next season and that he has signed a four-year contract with London club Arsenal," a statement on his website said today.
It is understood the midfielder - who can play down the center or on the wing - is likely to have cost Arsenal around £12m, though some reports suggest the figure closer to £16m, and would be their second major signing of the summer following the capture of promising Welsh teenager Aaron Ramsey from under the noses of Manchester United.
Speaking last month, Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger revealed his interest in the versatile French winger. "At 21 years old his whole future is ahead of him and he has quite a margin for progressing further. He has, in any case, the qualities needed to assert himself at the highest level,'' he said.
Nasri made two substitute appearances at Euro 2008. He has spent the last four seasons with Marseille after coming to prominence as part of France's Under-17 European Championship side in 2004. Nasri won the French first division's young player of the year award in 2007.
