Santoro Test Awaits Murray in Wimbledon Opener
Andy Murray has been handed a first-round clash against Fabrice Santoro at Wimbledon, while Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are in the same half of the draw
British No1 Andy Murray has been handed a first-round clash against Fabrice Santoro at Wimbledon following this morning's draw at the All England Club. Murray - who missed the prestigious grand slam tournament last year because of a wrist injury - has recovered from a thumb problem which forced him out of the Artois Championship at Queen's. The 21-year-old, ranked 11th in the world, has been seeded 12, and so will miss the other big names until at least the fourth round of the tournament.
Defending champion Roger Federer, seeking a sixth straight title, is the top seed in the men's singles and will face Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia. World No2 Rafael Nadal, the French Open champion who won at Queen's, is also in the bottom half of the draw with Murray and must take on German qualifier Andreas Beck. Australian Open champion Novak Djokovic is seeded third and will play Michael Berrer, of Germany. The Serbian is in the top half of the draw, with Federer.
There is other British interest in the men's singles, with Alex Bogdanovic set to face Italian Simone Bolelli. Qualifier Chris Eaton has been given a tough first-round test against Nicolas Mahut. Wild card Jamie Baker will take on Italy's Stefano Galvani, who came through qualifying.
