Murray Seeded 12th for Wimbledon
Andy Murray will not have to face any of the top three seeds before the fourth round after being seeded 12th in the men's singles
The British No1, Andy Murray, has been seeded 12th for the men's singles at Wimbledon. World No1 Roger Federer, chasing a sixth straight title at the All England club, is top seed in the men's draw, while Serbia's Ana Ivanovic, winner of the French Open, is top seed in the women's singles.
Murray, who is currently ranked No11 in the world, has been seeded below world No25 Marcos Baghdatis and No19 Tomas Berdych on account of his weaker record on grass. Nevertheless, Murray, who missed Wimbledon last year because of a wrist problem, will not be able to face any of the top three seeds - Federer, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic – before the fourth round at the earliest.
Murray continued his preparations for Wimbledon by beating Serbian Janko Tipsarevic 6-3, 5-7, 12-10 in an exhibition match at the Boodles Challenge, Stoke Park, yesterday. Afterwards he reassured fans that he was no longer troubled by the thumb injury that forced him to pull out of the Artois Championship at Queen's last week.
"I had not been on the court for four days since Queen's so it was nice to get out there and have an hour-and-a-half of a pretty competitive match," he said. "I got used to moving again, tested the thumb out and there were not too many problems.
"I will spend most of my time down at Wimbledon now, practicing with some of the other guys in the tournament. It is about trying to get used to the courts down there, making sure my body is well rested and in good shape for the start of the tournament."
The women's seedings are directly taken from the world rankings, leaving Ivanovic as top seed followed by compatriot Jelena Jankovic, former champion Maria Sharapova and Svetlana Kuznetsova. Serena Williams is seeded sixth with sister Venus seventh.
