After a month or so of rumors and speculations, the MacBook Pro 2011 edition from Apple Inc. is finally here, and it is much more than what the rumors and speculations about it had to say. It boasts of some of the most anticipated features, including the Thunderbolt (Light Peak) connectivity and advanced quad core processors. While all the people out there were eager to know when Apple will roll out the MacBook Pro 2011 edition, we were more keen on knowing what was in store of us. At the end of the day, when we did come across the list of features - we were left dumbfounded to see so many amazing features on offer, most of which were way better than the features of the previous models.

MacBook Pro Tech Specs

All new quad core processors, the Thunderbolt technology, a FaceTime HD camera... you name it and Apple has it for you in its Apple MacBook Pro 2011 update. The 2011 MacBook Pro lineup consists of five models -
  • 13 inch low end MacBook Pro priced at $1199
  • 13 inch higher end MacBook Pro priced at $1,499
  • 15 inch lower end MacBook Pro at $1,799
  • 15 inch higher end MacBook Pro priced at $2,199
  • 17 inch MacBook Pro priced at $2,499
Dual-Core and Quad-Core Processors
The new MacBook Pro models are armed with next generation dual-core and quad-core processors - with dual-core processor restricted to the 13 inch models and quad-core to 15 and 17 inch models. The 13 inch lower end version sports a 2.3GHz Intel Core i5, while its higher end counterpart has a 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 processor on board. Similarly, the 15 inch versions have 2.0GHz Intel Core i7 (lower end version) and 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 (higher end version) on board them. The 17 inch MacBook Pro sports a 2.2GHz Intel Core i7 processor. Each of these Sandy Bridge processors from Intel boast of being twice as fast as their predecessors.

New Graphics Processors
While each of these five MacBook Pro models come with an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 processor now, the 15 inch and 17 inch variants also have the new high-performance AMD Radeon graphics processors to their credit. These variants are designed to switch between the Intel HD Graphics processor and AMD Radeon graphics processor - depending on what task needs to be performed. If the CPUs are twice as fast as their predecessors, these GPUs are three times faster than their predecessors.

Thunderbolt Technology
Yet another fascinating attribute of new MacBook Pro line up is the fact that they are armed with the brand new Thunderbolt technology. A product of Intel-Apple collaboration, the Thunderbolt is a new connectivity technology which has made its debut with 2011 MacBook Pro. It boasts of an amazing speed of 10 gigabytes per second, which makes it 20 times faster than USB 2.0. With such speed at your disposal, you are in for a truly amazing gaming and entertainment experience.

FaceTime HD Camera
Yet another of those fascinating features, the new FaceTime HD camera facilitates 720p HD video calling from one MacBook Pro to another. Other than this, you also get to make video calls to a range of other Apple devices including other Mac computers (Intel-based) and the iPhone. Most important of all, the new FaceTime high-definition camera boasts of excellent resolution which is thrice as fast as its predecessor.

Other Features
While each of these models boasts of 4GB memory, the 13 inch low end version comes with a 320GB HDD, the 13 inch high-end and 15 inch low end versions are loaded with a 500GB HDD and the 15 inch high-end and 17 inch version are armed with 720GB HDD. Similarly the display gets better as you move on from low end version to high-end version, with 1280 by 800 pixels resolution in the 13 inch low end model and 1920 by 1200 pixels in the 17 inch model. We did expect Apple to use the Mac OS X Lion (version 10.7) to make it to new MacBook models, but the company seems to have preferred going with the Mac OS X Snow Leopard.

While the aforementioned specifications are quite amazing in themselves, the fact that these revamped models boasts of 7 hours of battery life is no less amazing. No changes are to be seen in terms of appearance, dimension or weight, while the precision aluminum unibody continues to add to its appeal. If you found the technical specifications of new MacBook Pro 2011 models appealing (it's highly unlikely that you won't), you can go ahead and buy a brand MacBook for yourself.
