FIFA World Cup 2010
Spain won the FIFA World Cup 2010 to become world champions (read: FIFA World Cup 2010 Results: Spain are World Champions, and add this title to the title of European champions that they already possess. They also topped the table in the latest FIFA World Rankings 2010. By far their most successful year ever in world soccer.
Tour de France
Alberto Contador has won his third Tour de France title in 4 years to continue the Spanish domination at the world's premiere cycling race. Contador had tough competition from Andy Schleck this time around, but managed to come home the winner, and keep Spain's flag flying high.
Formula One
Fernando Alonso helped Ferrari bounce back at the German Grand Prix and led a 1-2 for his team, to keep his and the team's hopes alive for the championships title. Fernando Alonso has been world champion twice before, but right now he is aiming to repeat the feat for the first time in a Ferrari car.
Wimbledon
The year comprises 4 Grand Slam tennis events, and Wimbledon is the one every player dreams of winning. Roger Federer has been the man winning this prestigious tournament for the past so many years. But this year, Spaniard Rafael Nadal has won both the French Open and Wimbledon (read: Wimbledon 2010: Nadal and Serena Champions and French Open 2010: Nadal and Schiavone Champions), to show the world that he is one of the best there has ever been.
US MotoGP
Spaniard Jorge Lorenzo on his Yamaha bike won the US MotoGP as now has managed to win the last 4 of his 5 races. The lead he has in the championship has now gone to a phenomenal 72 points, and it will take something real good to beat him.
These were just some of the major sporting events around the world this year that the Spanish have got a hold over. There are numerous other events that they have been doing well at. The 2010 sports calendar has been extra kind to Spain, and it's left to see what else they can add to their kitty in the 2nd half of the year. Viva La Espana!
