Celebrate Raksha Bandhan - Spend Time with your Sibling

Raksha Bandhan is one of the most cherished Hindu festivals in India. Raksha Bandhan ceremony essentially involves a simple and sober act of tying a frail thread of Rakhi on brother’s wrist by a sister, but in its spirit it is the strongest tradition that binds brothers and sisters in India. It is an occasion that allows siblings to spend time together and reaffirm their love for each other.

However, in present times, it is being increasingly noticed that many siblings observe Raksha Bandhan as a mere formality. Unable to afford time from their busy schedules, brothers and sisters simply perform the ceremony and get on their respective ways. This might be their way of celebrations, but this is not how the festival is meant to be celebrated. Siblings must make efforts to spend quality time with each other and strengthen their relationship.

Relive golden memories and create new ones
Grown up siblings staying in different cities must especially plan out celebrations together. Sending Rakhi is fine, but it should not become a norm as it removes fun out of the festival. Siblings should see their Raksha Bandhan get-together as an opportunity to relive golden memories of their childhood togetherness. Besides, they must make every effort to celebrate the festival in an enjoyable way and create some more beautiful memories.

Share your dreams and aspirations
As children, brothers and sisters talk so much to each other. At that time, they are their best friends and confidantes but as they grow up, sometimes siblings see a decline in their camaraderie. In case you too are losing that friendly touch with your bhaiya or didi, take this Raksha Bandhan as an opportunity to rejuvenate your relationship. Share your dreams and aspirations with your siblings. You will find that they are still your best friends and most honest guides.

Plan out a fun time together
Having fun together is another way of celebrating Raksha Bandhan and building ever-lasing relationship with your sibling. Plan out a family getaway or a picnic or indulge in sports and activities that you enjoyed together during your childhood years. If you wish to stay indoors you can watch movies, cook together or just keep talking. A great idea would be to click pictures and make movie of the time you spend together on Rakhi.

Get closer to your sibling’s family
If your sibling has a family now, make effort to get closer to them. Take gifts not just for your sibling but also for his/her family members. Sisters can tie lumbas around their bhabhi’s wrist and take Rakhi Gifts that comes in pair like watches or perfume sets. If there are kids, you may take chocolates or other cute gifts for them. This will go a long way in strengthening relationship with your sibling.

Talk and see if you sibling needs help
Celebrating occasion and having fun on festivals is good, but strength of a relationship is tested in trying times. Talk and see if your sibling is in trouble and need help. If that is the case, be ready to help out in every possible. You might perhaps need the same sometimes later!!
