Raikkonen Reveals He May Quit Next Year
Formula one world champion Kimi Raikkonen indicated this may be his last year in the sport
The reigning world champion, Kimi Raikkonen, has said that he may quit formula one when his contract with Ferrari runs out at the end of next season.
The 28-year-old Finn, who is in Montreal this week preparing for the Canadian grand prix on Sunday, said yesterday: "I haven't made any decision as to whether I will keep going or not [after my contract runs out]. We will wait and see during this year and next year what happens. I haven't made my mind up."
Raikkonen added that for him the enjoyment he got from the sport had to outweigh the negatives. "I wouldn't stop if I thought I would miss it," he said. "I'm going to race as long as I enjoy it. I think it's the right thing for me and when the day comes when it's no longer fun I will stop, for sure. Many people only like the driving and the rest can be something that you don't enjoy. When there are more things you don't like, then it's time to stop."
This season the Finn has already won two races, in Malaysia and Spain, and is second in the drivers' standings, three points behind Lewis Hamilton. When asked whether he would consider racing for another formula one team he replied: "Probably not."
