Chelsea Have a Psychological Problem With United - Tevez
Carlos Tevez believes United have a mental edge over Avram Grant's side
Carlos Tevez has risked infuriating Chelsea's players before tomorrow's Champions League final by saying that Manchester United are "a better side" and that this represents a "psychological problem" for Avram Grant's team.
The Argentinian forward played a huge part as United pipped Chelsea to the Premier League title, scoring 14 league goals this season, and believes that Grant's players will still be carrying the memories of that final-day league disappointment with them when they step on to the pitch at the Luzhniki Stadium.
"We are a better side than Chelsea. That is a psychological problem for them," he said. "They may say the Premier League is another matter but we are convinced that wining it will have an impact in what happens in the final. We are favorites and everyone knows it, and we are not worried by Chelsea. We are confident and focused but, for them, it is more difficult. This is more than a final for them - their whole season rests on the outcome of this game and I am convinced they have some problems in that team."
Tevez also said the players will do everything they can to win for their manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, who dreams of being able to lift the European Cup for a second time since joining United in 1986. "The manager is very happy that we've won the league but we know how serious he is about this competition and how much he wants to win it," he said.
"He has spoken to us about the Munich disaster and what it means to the club and we all agreed that it would be fantastic to commemorate the 50th anniversary by winning the trophy and dedicating it to the people who died."
Patrice Evra has said United will not be affected by their 2-1 Premier League defeat at Chelsea last month. "Everybody was a little bit angry, when you lose a game you're always angry," said the United full-back, who was a losing finalist with Monaco in 2004.
"[But] in a sense we have forgotten all about losing at Chelsea because straight afterwards we beat Barcelona, then we went on to win the title. At Stamford Bridge, a lot of players were rested. The final in Moscow will be a completely different game."
