Chelsea Agree Terms With Porto Over £16.1m Bosingwa Deal
Chelsea have beaten Manchester United in the race to sign Portugal full-back Jose Bosingwa
Chelsea may have failed in their attempts to beat Manchester United to the Premier League title, but they have seen off the newly-crowned champions in the race to sign the Portugal international Jose Bosingwa from Porto. Officials from the Portuguese club have agreed terms to sell the right-back, who Sir Alex Ferguson had lined up as Gary Neville's successor, for £16.1m.
In a statement on the Porto website, the club announced that the deal for the wing back will be finalized shortly pending a medical. "FC Porto wishes to inform the market that a deal has been reached in principle with Chelsea for the definitive sale of the rights of Jose Bosingwa for the price of €20.5m (£16.1m)," it read.
"The club also announces that the agreement of this transfer will be made formal once the player has passed medical tests."
