Captain's Quest Vaughan Chases Form

Michael Vaughan will want to add to a solid looking 25 when play recommences at Headingley
A fox slunk on to the Headingley outfield in mid-afternoon as if looking for a rabbit. Whatever they say about Michael Vaughan's batting form, it is not yet that bad. Then it turned on its heel and disappeared. It had taken a few seconds to conclude what the rest of us witnessed over two hours: Vaughan is in the best of trim, thank you.

He remains, however, an England captain in need of a score ahead of the first Test against New Zealand at Lord's. He has managed 37 in four knocks so far and should he fail twice against Nottinghamshire there will be murmurings of discontent.

Good-looking 20s have become an uncomfortable habit for the 33-year-old. When rain brought an end to his labors yesterday, unbeaten on 25 from 81 balls with Yorkshire 51 for one, he had another one, only this one remains unfinished business.
