Stephen Maguire won the China Open by a margin of one frame in a tight final against Shaun Murphy
Stephen Maguire beat Shaun Murphy 10-9 in the final of the China Open in Beijing. The 27-year-old Scot's £48,000 first prize was supplemented by £22,000 for his 147 break in beating Ryan Day 6-5 in Saturday's semi-final but Murphy will go to the World Championship as the provisional world No1.
The final was finely balanced, with Murphy winning five frames in a row before Maguire won four in succession, and it was decided at 9-9 after Maguire potted the last red and cleared to blue.
