Lancashire
County Championship preview: Andrew Flintoff will want to make an impression early on as Lancashire chase the title
Big year for
Andrew Flintoff. Lancashire will be looking for an early-season lift as he aims to prove his fitness to England
Captain
Stuart Law
Manager
Mike Watkinson
2007
Championship 3rd (D1)
Pro40 3rd (D1)
Friends Provident 7th in North group
Twenty20 semi-finals
In Francois du Plessis (SA)
Out None
Overseas Brad Hodge (Aus)
Indian effect
Stuart Law had already signed for the rebel ICL competition when he was appointed captain last autumn following the resignation of Mark Chilton, leading the Chennai Superstars to the title.
Pinning their hopes on
The pain of last season's last-day defeat by Surrey to drive them to that elusive championship. Law has previous, having ended Queensland's 68-year wait to win the Sheffield Shield in 1995.
Foreign flavor
Brad Hodge is back after being omitted from Australia's recent one-day squads. Lancashire have also reluctantly signed Francois du Plessis, a 23-year-old South African, as a Kolpak to strengthen their one-day squad.
Well I never
Lancashire have lost six championship games in the last three seasons; Flintoff has made only eight appearances in those three years but played in three of the defeats.
Bob Willis' verdict
Lancashire will finish in the top three and are my tip to win the FP Trophy. Stuart Law is a hungry new captain and he can lead them to success. They will also be very encouraged by how Flintoff is recovering in the pre-season.
