Capello Boosts Walcott
Despite Arsenal's Champions League disappointment, Fabio Capello has his eye on Theo Walcott
There is one consolation for Theo Walcott, the Arsenal substitute whose remarkable counterattack set up an Emmanuel Adebayor goal at Anfield before Liverpool fought back to win the Champions League tie: England's head coach, Fabio Capello, is more impressed than ever by the 19-year-old.
"I was delighted," said the Italian. "The run was incredible. To go past so many players with such speed and balance is one thing but to have the composure and awareness to pick a pass at the crucial moment showed great skill and maturity."
Capello takes heart from seeing three Premier League clubs in the Champions League last four. "It is positive that English players are proving their flexibility and tactical awareness. Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United each play with unique style and it is promising to see English players flourishing in different roles and situations. An all-English final would be fantastic for the England players involved."
