US Air Crew Escapes Unhurt After Fire in Qatar

American B-1 bomber crew escapes without injury after plane catches fire in Qatar
An American B-1 bomber crew escaped without injury after their plane caught fire at an air base in Qatar.

The blaze erupted after the plane landed at al-Udeid Air Base, the headquarters of all American air operations in the Middle East, following what the US Air Force described as a "ground incident".

Early reports suggested the plane had crashed, but a statement from the Air Force read: "The crew evacuated the aircraft and is safe. The fire was contained."

US defence officials were unable to give the number of people on board, or what mission the bomber was conducting. A board of inquiry has been appointed to investigate.
