India's football captain, Bhaichung Bhutia, has pulled out of the Olympic torch relay in protest at China's response to recent demonstrations in Tibet. Bhutia, a Buddhist, from the NE state of Sikkim which borders China, pulled out of the New Delhi leg because of his sympathy for the Tibetan cause. 'I have many friends in Sikkim who follow Buddhism," said the forward, right, who played for Bury from 1999-2001. 'This is my way of standing by the people of Tibet and their struggle. What is happening is not right.' The New Delhi leg is one of the most sensitive on the torch's round-the-world relay because of the number of Tibetan nationals who live there, with the city's Chinese embassy being stormed last month.
