Rafael Benítez has requested a meeting with the referees supremo Keith Hackett in the wake of Javier Mascherano's sending off at Manchester United on Sunday.
The Liverpool manager feels his club could now be targeted in an FA clean-up although, apart from the Argentinian, only Peter Crouch and Jermaine Pennant have been sent off this season, both in cups. The Spaniard now wants clarification from the man who controls referees' scheduling that Liverpool and his midfielder will not be made an example of in the future.
"It is important we find a solution," Benítez said. "At Liverpool we respect the game. We respect the rules and we respect the referee and it is important to remember that Mascherano was the first Liverpool player to be sent off in the league this season."
