Pacquiao Takes World Title After Edging Out Marquez

Boxing: Manny Pacquiao won a split-decision over Juan Manuel Marquez to capture the WBC super-featherweight title
The Filipino Manny Pacquiao maintained his reputation as one of the world's pre-eminent fighters when he recorded a split-decision win over Mexico's Juan Manuel Marquez at the Mandalay Bay Casino, Las Vegas, to win the WBC world super-featherweight title. Pacquaio scored what proved a decisive knockdown in the last seconds of the third round as he floored Marquez with a powerful left hand.

With judge Duane Ford scoring 115-112 in Pacquiao's favor and Jerry Roth making Marquez the winner 115-112, the third judge's card was crucial. Tom Miller scored it to Pacquiao 114-113, having scored the third round for Pacquiao by a two-point margin.
