Warriors Plan Jjb Switch As Whelan Moves to Relay Pitch
Rugby league: Wigan Warriors may have to play Super League games away from the JJB Stadium if the pitch is relaid
Wigan Warriors may have to switch at least one of their home Super League matches in June from the JJB Stadium because its owner, Dave Whelan, plans to relay the pitch for Wigan Athletic's 2008-9 football season. Whelan conceded that action was needed after Arsène Wenger became the latest Premiership manager to criticize the pitch after the goalless draw last Sunday.
Wigan have Super League games scheduled at the JJB against Huddersfield on June 6 and Harlequins on June 27 and Bolton's Reebok Stadium has been mentioned as an alternative venue, but Ian Lenagan, who bought Whelan's majority shareholding in the Warriors last year, said: "Nothing is finalized or agreed."
