Roy Keane is hoping to bring in Andy Reid from Charlton for £4m before th close of the transfer window
Roy Keane hopes to add Charlton Athletic's Andy Reid to his squad after making a bid of around £4m for the Republic of Ireland midfielder last night. The 25-year-old does not exactly fit the "tough, hard working" image of a Sunderland player as identified by Keane this week but would give the Wearsiders a different dimension. With Kieran Richardson injured once again, Reid may play wide on the left but could also be used more centrally as a playmaker.

Mathieu Flamini is set to commit the next five years of his career to Arsenal. Flamini's representatives are in advanced talks with the board over a new contract and the French midfielder, whose deal expires in the summer, is keen to sign. "There are no other clubs," he said. "My priority is to stay here. I'm very happy here. I'm talking with Arsenal and I hope everything will be good." Theo Walcott has insisted he would not consider a loan move away from Arsenal. "I don't think there's a reason for me to go on loan," he said. "I train here with some of the best players in the world."

Middlesbrough were last night finalizing a deal which will see Goran Slavovski, an 18-year-old Macedonian striker arriving at The Riverside on loan from Internazionale until the end of the season. A group of Liverpool supporters will today unveil ambitious plans to raise £500m to buy-out Tom Hicks and George Gillett and build a new stadium on Stanley Park. "Share Liverpool FC", led by the chair and founding member of the Football Supporters' Association, Rogan Taylor, aims to create a "member-share" scheme at Anfield whereby 100,000 people invest £5,000.

The 31-year-old Georgian midfielder Levan Tskitishvili, recently released from the Greek club Panionios, is set to join Birmingham City on a short-term contract.

Samuel Eto'o became the all-time leading goalscorer in African Nations Cup history as his two goals took Cameroon into the quarter-finals with a 3-0 victory over Sudan. Egypt drew 1-1 against Zambia and the three points mean the Indomitable Lions finish second to Egypt in Group C.
