Bavarian Style Cube Steaks
Ingredients:
- Cooking oil 1 tablespoon.
- Beef steaks, cubed 1 pound.
- Onions, chopped 1/3 cup.
- Water 2-½ cups.
- Dry mushroom soup mix envelopes 2.
- Brown sugar 2 tablespoons.
- White vinegar 2 tablespoons.
- Caraway seeds 1 teaspoon.
- Take a large skillet and heat some oil, once the oil starts sizzling, add the steaks and let them get nice and brown on each side.
- To this add the onion and cook till they become transparent. This should take 5 minutes.
- In a bowl add water, mushroom soup mix, sugar, caraway seeds and vinegar and mix well.
- Pour this mixture on the steaks in the skillet and let it simmer for 15 minutes.
- Remove the steaks and remove the fat from the sides.
- Serve hot with the gravy and mashed potatoes.
Ingredients:
- Beef Flank steak 1 ½ pounds.
- Vegetable oil 2 tablespoons.
- Onion, sliced 1 large.
- Green chilies, chopped 4 ounces.
- Water 1/3 cup.
- Vinegar 2 tablespoons.
- Chili powder 1 Ό teaspoon.
- Garlic powder 1 teaspoon.
- Sugar ½ teaspoon.
- Salt ½ teaspoon.
- Pepper 1/8 teaspoon.
- The steak needs to fit in a crock-pot, so if its too big you need to cut it into half.
- Take a large skillet and place over medium heat; add oil and the steak to it.
- After the steak has been browned in the skillet, transfer it to the crock-pot.
- In the same skillet, add onions, green chilies, water, vinegar, chili powder, garlic powder, sugar, salt and pepper.
- Allow this mixture to come to a boil on medium heat and keep stirring so that it doesnt stick to the bottom of the skillet.
- Pour this mixture over the steak in the crock-pot.
- Let this cook in the crock-pot for 4 hours on high heat and let meat become tender.
- Remove the meat and place on a dish.
- Slice diagonally and serve with onions and mashed potatoes.
Ingredients:
- Beef round steak, ½ inch thick 3 pounds.
- Flour Ό cup.
- Dry mustard 2 teaspoons.
- Salt 2 teaspoons.
- Pepper 1 pinch.
- Shortening Ό cup.
- Water ½ cup.
- Worcestershire sauce 1 tablespoon.
- Start with removing all the fat from the steak, but do not slash as this will result in the steak curling.
- In a bowl add the flour, mustard, salt and pepper and mix well.
- Cover the meat with this mixture.
- Take a skillet, and add shortening and the marinated steak to it. let the steak fry on each side. Place the meat in one corner of the skillet and add flour mixture in the skillet.
- Next add the water and Worcestershire sauce and mix well in the skillet.
- Let this cook till the sauce starts thickening and boiling.
- Cover the skillet and cook for 90 minutes.
- Remove the steak and place on a platter; serve with gravy and mashed potatoes.
