Thaxton Calls on Khan to Challenge Him for Gb Title
Boxing: British lightweight champion Jon Thaxton has urged Commonwealth title-holder Amir Khan to face him in a contest to determine the country's best fighter in the division
Jon Thaxton, the British lightweight champion, has called on the Commonwealth title-holder Amir Khan to face him in a contest to determine the country's best fighter in the division.
The British Boxing Board of Control has nominated Khan as the official challenger for the 33-year-old champion's belt, with purse bids to be announced next Wednesday, but Thaxton is worried Khan may now choose to avoid him.
The 21-year-old Khan is due to fight next on February 2 against the Dane Martin Kristjansen in what will be recognized as an official eliminator for the WBO world title, but Thaxton said: "The British public deserve better. They deserve to see him in a real test, and that's me."
