Kenyan Police Fire Teargas at Protest Rally
Riot police in Nairobi fired teargas and water this morning at crowds gathering at a banned rally in the Kenyan capital to protest at the disputed re-election of President Mwai Kibaki.
The opposition leader, Raila Odinga, has called for a million of his supporters to gather at the demonstration in Uhuru park.
Only a few hundred had gathered this morning but there were fears of violence, with more than 300 people having been killed in clashes since the election.
Police in riot gear gathered in force around the park and prevented opposition supporters leaving the Nairobi slums, the support base of Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement.
The opposition claims the election was stolen following a series of voting irregularities.
