US News Anchor Charged With Assaulting Police Officer

An Emmy Award winning US television news anchor has been charged with assaulting a female police officer in New York.

Alycia Lane, 35, who is news co-anchor at CBS affiliate KYW-TV in Philadelphia, allegedly punched the officer in Manhattan at around 2am on Sunday morning.

The officer was treated at hospital for a cut and was later released.

Lane was arraigned on a felony charge of assaulting a police officer and pleaded not guilty, her lawyer said, adding that his client "denies striking anyone."

Lane, who lives in Philadelphia, was released from police custody on Sunday, and was scheduled to appear in court in April.

A spokesperson for the KYW-TV station said that management was "very concerned for Alycia."

Lane, who won a local Emmy in 2005, made national headlines in May 2007 after she e-mailed pictures of herself and friends wearing bikinis to married NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen.
