Murphy Dispatches Ding to Set Up Maguire Semi-final
Snooker: Sean Murphy defeated Ding Junhui 9-7 to earn a UK Championship semi-final against Stephen Maguire
Shaun Murphy, the 2005 world champion, disappointed a live television audience of 100 million in China by beating its standard bearer Ding Junhui 9-7 to reach tomorrow's semi-final of the UK Championship at Telford. Murphy's opponent will be Stephen Maguire, who beat Mark Williams, a former world and UK champion, 9-5. Ronnie O'Sullivan said last night that his walkout at the 2006 championship did not represent the lowest point in his professional career. O'Sullivan, who plays Jamie Cope in the quarter-final today, left in the sixth frame of a match 12 months ago. But he said: "I do suffer from depression but last year and now it's nowhere near as bad as it was 10 years ago."
