Quick-fire Cope Sends World Champion Packing

John Higgins admitted he was 'battered' by Jamie Cope after he lost 9-3 to the 22-year-old in the UK Championship
Jamie Cope produced a stunning exhibition of potting and break-building to overwhelm John Higgins, the world champion, 9-3, to reach the last 16 of the UK Championship at Telford.

The 22-year-old from Stoke, operating at a dashing average shot duration of only 18 seconds, made two total clearances of 133 and 137 to lead 2-1, two decisive clearances of 53 and 63 to snatch consecutive black-ball wins for a 5-2 advantage and from his overnight 5-3 scarcely missed a ball in taking the four frames he needed for victory in 58 minutes. "I was battered," Higgins admitted.

Ronnie O'Sullivan, struggling with his long game, trailed Michael Holt 6-5 but came through 9-6.
