McKay in a Fury About Police Raid
Arrested agent Willie McKay has likened the police raid on his house to a terrorist operation
Willie McKay, the football agent arrested on Wednesday as part of the investigation into allegations of corruption in football, has claimed that a police raid on his home was like a "terrorist operation".
McKay, who insists he has done nothing wrong, said: "It was 6am, all I could hear was people shouting 'Police'. I got out of bed and there were police officers all over the place. I got ready but I was absolutely startled and amazed they actually came up into my bedroom - I think there were around 28 [officers involved]. How on earth can an inquiry for allegedly giving a player money lead to 28 officers storming my house with my family inside? It's incredible.
"They were looking for transfer documents, and the strange thing is that twice my lawyer has contacted the police and said: 'We're quite happy to meet you, speak with you and show any documentation you want.' I don't blame the officers themselves. It was like something out of a film."
McKay was arrested by City of London police's economic crimes unit along with the Portsmouth chief executive Peter Storrie, the former club chairman Milan Mandaric and former player Amdy Faye, plus the current Pompey manager, Harry Redknapp. All have denied any wrongdoing and McKay is in no doubt that he will be cleared. "I'm not confident, I know I will be," he said. "The worrying thing is, how can somebody launch an attack like this on my property through lies? That's all it's been."
After his involvement in Lord Stevens' Quest inquiry into alleged bungs, when he decided to "out" himself as one of the nine unnamed agents who supposedly were uncooperative - something he also strongly denied - McKay feels he is being victimized. "A club chairman in the north-west about three years ago told me 'It's your head they want'. I've been through everything, this investigation, that investigation - where's it all coming to?"
