Bruce Agrees Wigan Return

Steve Bruce has moved to Wigan on a £2m a year contract, but his assistant Eric Black looks to be staying in Birmingham
Steve Bruce has finally been confirmed as the new manager of Wigan. Bruce has managed Wigan before, overseeing eight games in charge at the club in 2001 before moving to Birmingham, who will now receive a reported £3m in compensation.

His first task will be to travel to the Emirates on Saturday to take on the Premier League leaders Arsenal, after which he will have to come up with a plan to avoid relegation. Wigan have lost their last seven league matches and are currently stranded in 19th place, only two points above Derby and three behind Birmingham, who are 15th.

Bruce is expected to be paid around £2m a year at Wigan, and his job now seems set to go to his assistant, Eric Black. The speculation since Wigan were given permission to speak to Bruce on Friday was that Black would move with him, but early reports suggest he will be staying put for the time being.
