Profile: Imran Khan
Imran Khan was a world class cricketer, captaining the Pakistan team in the 1980s, before turning to politics.
After retiring from the game, in 1992, he launched the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (Pakistani Justice Movement) with a pledge to rid the country of political corruption.
He is the only member of his party to hold a position in the 342-seat national assembly.
Initially, Khan supported General Pervez Musharraf's 1999 coup but he has since turned into one of the president's most vociferous critics.
He escaped arrest when emergency rule was recently imposed, issuing messages to the media through his former wife, Jemima.
He is backing the demand by the opposition leader Benazir Bhutto for Musharraf to step down as president.
