Birmingham Welcome Wigan's Wooing of Bruce

Struggling Wigan look set to stake their future on the manager who has guided Brimingham to 15th place in the Premier League
Birmingham City have reportedly given Wigan Athletic permission to talk to manager Steve Bruce about the possibility of returning to the JJB.

Bruce had an eight-match stint in charge of Wigan in April 2001 before leaving to become boss of Crystal Palace. After just five months at Palace he left to take charge of Birmingham, where he has been ever since - but the refusal of the club's new major shareholder, Carson Yeung, to offer him a new contract has unsettled him and his departure would not be a surprise.

Birmingham are currently four places and three points above 19th-place Wigan, who sacked manager Chris Hutchings last week. Earlier today Paul Jewell revealed Wigan chairman Dave Whelan had offered him a "king's ransom" to return to the JJB.
