Victorious Maguire Happy to Be Home and Dry
Snooker: Stephen Maguire has said his return to form has coincided with him quitting alcohol
Stephen Maguire revealed in the aftermath of his 9-5 victory over Fergal O'Brien in the final of the Northern Ireland Trophy that his loss of form following European Open and UK titles and a place in the British Open final in 2004 was due to excessive drinking which caused his weight to increase by two stones. "The booze did me. I went a bit nuts, to be honest, but when I became a dad I stopped all of that," said the 26-year-old Scot, right. "I must admit there were times earlier this year when I was beginning to wonder whether I'd ever win a tournament again." His triumph took him to third place in the provisional world rankings behind Shaun Murphy and Ronnie O'Sullivan.
