O'Sullivan's Five Centuries Put Him in Belfast Frame
Snooker: Ronnie O'Sullivan hit a record five centuries to move into the quarter-finals of the Northern Ireland Trophy.
Ronnie O'Sullivan made five centuries, including a maximum 147, a record for a best-of-nine-frames match, in beating Allister Carter 5-2 to reach today's quarter-finals of the Northern Ireland Trophy at the Waterfront Hall, Belfast. The twice world champion began with runs of 108 and 122 before dropping the third frame. But with 107 and 147 he led 4-1 before completing his scintillating display in the next frame but one with a total clearance of 129. His seventh maximum in professional competition, only one fewer than Stephen Hendry's record, earned him a £20,000 bonus and the £2,000 highest break prize unless a maximum from another player reduces this by half.
