Dhoni and Yuvraj Inspire India to Victory Over Pakistan
Mahendra Singh Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh both made half-centuries to help India to a five-wicket victory over Pakistan in the first one-day international in Guwahati.
Chasing 240 to win, India lost Sachin Tendulkar early, falling leg-before to Shoaib Akhtar for just four, and were 113 for three after 21 overs when Dhoni and Yuvraj joined forces to add an effortless 105 for the fourth wicket. Not even two late wickets could take the gloss off a win that was completed with three overs to spare.
Earlier, tight bowling from Harbhajan Singh, who took one for 30 off his 10 overs, and two wickets for Tendulkar helped to keep Pakistan in check - despite a valiant knock of 83 not out from 88 balls by Mohammad Yousuf and Salman Butt's spritely half-century at the top of the order.
The second game of the five-match series takes place in Chandigarh on Thursday.
