Radcliffe Returns

Athletics: Paula Radcliffe aims to prove she still has Olympic gold potential when she returns to marathon competition in New York.
Paula Radcliffe takes another step towards erasing the memory of the Athens Olympics three years ago when she runs the New York marathon today.

Athens remains the only marathon of the seven the 32-year-old Briton has started that she has failed to win, after she dropped out the race.

Victory today would represent another important step towards making amends at the 2008 Games in Beijing. It is Radcliffe's first marathon since giving birth to a daughter Isla last January but the great Norwegian runner Grete Waitz, for one, does not see that as a problem. 'There are plenty of examples of runners coming back stronger after pregnancy,' said Waitz.
