Fu's Win Puts Him in Frame for Masters Wild Card
Snooker: Marco Fu rose to a provisional 15th in the world rankings following his victory over Ronnie O'Sullivan.
Marco Fu's 9-6 victory over Ronnie O'Sullivan in the final of the Royal London Watches Grand Prix transports him from his start-of-season 27th in the world rankings to a provisional 15th and also makes him the prime candidate to receive the discretionary wild card available for January's Masters at Wembley.
O'Sullivan, who has now gone 31 months without a ranking title, would have gone top if he had won but, as it is, is second behind John Higgins, the world champion, who was Fu's victim in the last 16. Shaun Murphy lies third. The steepest climber is the 24-year-old Chinese Liu Song, whose quarter-final finish propels him from 91st to 57th.
