Andy Murray cruised into the second round of the St Petersburg Open today after recording a 6-2, 6-2 win over Max Mirnyi.

Murray's hopes of success at last week's Madrid Masters were brought to an end by home favourite Rafael Nadal in the third round, but he continued his impressive form with this 52-minute success.

The world No16 secured an early break to gain the edge in the first set and a second enabled him to go on and win it comfortably.

Mirnyi was clearly struggling to contain Murray and he soon conceded another break early in the second, before a second helped Murray build a 5-1 lead. At least Mirnyi held serve to pull a game back, but it merely delayed the inevitable as Murray served out the match to win.
