Yorkshire Hit By Vaughan Injury
Michael Vaughan dealt a potential blow to Yorkshire's County Championship title hopes when he was forced to withdraw from the pro40 game against Surrey at Scarborough yesterday after suffering a back spasm.
The England captain pulled out of the game as a precaution and his continued absence could hit Yorkshire, who currently lead the first Division, during the championship run-in. In a further blow to Yorkshire, Vaughan's former England team-mate Darren Gough aggravated shin soreness while batting and could bowl only two overs before leaving the field for ice-pack treatment.
A spectacular all-round performance from Graeme Swann launched Nottinghamshire to a comprehensive 116-run victory over Gloucestershire. The 28-year-old fired 59 off just 33 balls at the top of the order before picking up a career-best five for 17 with his off-breaks as the visitors were outplayed in all departments. Swann combined with his fellow opener Will Jefferson (50) to blast 111 off the first 12 overs as Notts totaled 270 for six, with Mark Wagh making 65 and Chris Read an unbeaten 46.
Phil Mustard continued his superb one-day form by hammering 78 off 40 balls as Durham beat Leicestershire by six wickets at Chester-le-Street. In their first game at the Riverside since winning the Friends Provident Trophy last weekend, Durham romped to their target of 216 - they made 218 for four - with 9.5 overs to spare ahead of today's game at home to Yorkshire. Mustard reached 50 off 21 balls with nine fours and a six.
