Harmison Pulls Out of Lord's Final
Cricket: Durham will be without Steve Harmison for Saturday's Friends Provident Trophy final against Hampshire.
England fast bowler Steve Harmison has been ruled out of Durham's maiden Lord's one-day final appearance against Hampshire on Saturday through injury.
Harmison complained of soreness in his back during the County Championship clash with Surrey earlier this week, having only recently returned from a hernia operation. "Apparently there is some sort of haematoma in his side," the Durham coach Geoff Cook admitted yesterday.
Following tests it has been decided it would be unwise for him to risk the problem in the Friends Provident Trophy final. It is a huge blow for Harmison, who had hoped to feature at Lord's after missing the entire Test series against India.
Graham Onions is the likely beneficiary of Harmison's absence, although Durham could recall Mark Davies less than 48 hours after allowing him to join Nottinghamshire on loan.
