Robben Happy With Real Interest
Soccer: Arjen Robben has said he is glad Real Madrid are interested in him, prompting further speculation as to his imminent Chelsea departure.
Arjen Robben has said he is "happy" to be attracting interest from Real Madrid. Chelsea's Dutch international winger has been linked with a move from Stamford Bridge all summer. Robben, who has a knee problem, was not included in the squad for the FA Community Shield against Manchester United at Wembley last weekend.
Since then Michael Ballack has declared his commitment to the west London club following reports that he too could be heading to the Bernabéu. No official word on any offer for the Dutchman has been forthcoming from either of the teams involved.
However, in comments reported by Spanish daily AS, Robben made no secret of his desire to take on a fresh challenge, having joined Chelsea for £12m in 2004.
"Of course Madrid's interest makes me happy," he said. "But for now I cannot say much more because Chelsea will not let me tell you more until there is an agreement between the two clubs. It's better that they talk about it and solve this."
Robben, whose father and agent Hans has said negotiations were at a delicate stage, added: "It's in the hands of the two clubs. My father is in charge of it all. I would like to send a message to the Madrid fans, but I can't until my future is sorted."
Sevilla's Daniel Alves has called on his club to consider a reported offer for him from Chelsea. The Brazilian, who can play at full-back or as a midfielder, made it clear that he would move to Stamford Bridge if given the chance. Alves said: "I want to try. Out of respect to me they have to do it. I have behaved well over 4½years and I ask Sevilla to also behave well and evaluate an offer."
